New challenges, new strategy, new identity

by Jul 11, 2022Events and News

Earlier this year we shared with you the consultation draft of our new strategy that was built upon the work funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thank you to all of you who shared your invaluable feedback which has helped to shape our new three-year strategy, which we are excited to launch this summer!

A new strategy for new challenges

The new strategy builds on the amazing work of the Epping Forest Centenary Trust and Friends of Epping Forest since the late sixties, and has been shaped by members and partners through discussions and surveys over the last 2 years.

Sadly Epping Forest is facing its biggest challenges in a generation: increased footfall, high levels of pollution, significant adjacent development, budget restrictions at the City of London Corporation and local authorities and of course climate change and loss of biodiversity.

The unprecedented challenges Epping Forest is facing means we need to do more to protect and preserve it; and we need to be able to continue our work to protect it for years to come.

It also means we need to grow our membership, our reach into different audiences, and grow the support for our work from partners. This has underpinned the development of our new, modern look which we believe reflects the core of our work protecting the Forest, and will enable us to connect with more people who will support our work for years to come.

A new identity to bring the new strategy to life

With our new strategy, the pathway to our vision is clearer than ever. And to succeed the charity knows that it needs to inspire the widest audience possible and engage multiple generations. Consequently, the way we communicate and represent ourselves needs to change to reflect how society and communities are changing.

Our new look has been developed to better reflect what we stand for. It brings together the four key themes of our identity: nature, people, heritage, and protecting the Forest, in a symbolic roundel deriving from tree rings.

It builds on our heritage and faces up to the future. It cuts through time and connects generations while keeping nature at our heart, reflecting our vision of a thriving Forest, rich in biodiversity, heritage, and culture; enjoyed and conserved now and for generations to come.
