Join the annual celebration, walk the length of Epping Forest in one day

On Sunday 17th September 2023, Epping Forest welcomed over 100 walkers across London from diverse communities to walk the length of the Forest in one day. The drizzle didn’t dampen the enthusiasm.

Here are some of the photos from the walk

Epping Forest Big Walk: 17th September 2023

Organised by Epping Forest Heritage Trust and supported by City of London Corporation, we set off at Manor Park in East London and walked 14 miles to Bell Common in Epping. There were also short talks from local groups, politicians, and City of London Corporation Epping Forest team to inspire us with the wonder of the Forest and the work to protect and preserve it. A huge thank you goes to:

  • Stephen Timms MP for East Ham
  • Tim Harris from Wren Wildlife and Conservation Group
  • Cllr Grace Williams, Leader of London Borough of Waltham Forest
  • Gordon Turpin from Highams Park Planning Group
  • Ben Murphy, Chair of Epping Forest & Commons Committee
  • Paul Thomson, Superintendent of Epping Forest, City of London Corporation
  • Cllr Holly Whitbread, Leader of the Conservative Group Epping Forest District Council

Epping Forest Big Walk will return in September 2024.

What attendees say about the walk

Brilliant way to explore the gem on our doorstep and meet interesting people. Minimal carbon footprint to boot!

It was such a lovely, friendly atmosphere and so great to see everyone enjoying the walk despite the rain.

My first time walking the Epping Forest Big Walk. I was amazing. I would certainly do it again. Well organised and just a lovely bunch of people.

A well-paced walk, with ample stops and excellent guides. I’m proud to say I’ve now walked the length of Epping Forest. This walk has also given me the confidence to solo explore the forest more and even bring my friends on the walk using the map provided.
