Jean’s Story
I have always been attracted to the Forest even when living off Epping High Street but so disappointed how far away it seemed to walk in, alone when a teenager having left my friends in Westcliff on Sea.
Then on marrying much later and settling in Loughton, Forest Road there it was at the top of the road. We then had easy access to take the kids there. My son in Scouts had weekly jaunts into the woods then later in his teenage, birthday activities with friends and my daughter riding out from stables around the Forest brings great happy memories for her, compared to Thorndon Country Park where she has had her daughters riding in very restricted conditions.
As a volunteer at the former Information Centre the walk through the Forest with my husband is memorable, through snow and fire conditions! Then latterly on guided walks in groups either organised through the Corporation of London or Bedford House.
This all made up much, a part of my family’s life.
