About Epping Forest Big Walk

Previously known as ‘The Centenary Walk’, the route covers the whole length of the Forest starting from Manor Park in Newham and going all the way to Epping in Essex. It was first established in 1978 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the passing of the Epping Forest Act 1878. It is now one of the biggest annual events celebrating Epping Forest and its irreplaceable biodiversity, culture, and heritage now and for generations to come.

Organised with support from the Ramblers’ Association and the Corporation of London, the walk provides the opportunity to walk the entire length of Epping Forest, about 15 miles, in a day. You can choose to walk the whole length of the route or take part in one of the smaller, local sections. Everyone is welcome to join this celebratory walk for some or all of it!

Book your tickets

You can book your tickets via our Eventbrite page here. You can choose to walk the whole route or part of the sections. It would be helpful to let us know which part of the walk you would like to join. Don’t worry if you change your mind – you can always walk more or less depending on how it goes on the day!

Tickets will be available to book from Monday 8th August via Eventbrite page.

What’s happening on the day

The walk is nicely paced with three main stops in between, you can choose to walk the full length or sections of the route that suit your needs.

This is a walk for communities to get together to celebrate the wonderful ancient Forest and its irreplaceable biodiversity, culture, and heritage. There will be informative talks about the Forest during the walk. So please rest assured that you don’t need to be a professional hiker to join the walk. Everyone is welcome!
