Summary

In this paperback book of short walks, coverage of the whole of Epping Forest from Wanstead Park in the South to the Lower Forest in the North, is given by means of a series of interlinked three mile circular walks. In this way it is possible to walk three miles or join them through the link points mentioned in the text and illustrated in the maps to provide a walk of any desired length.

Fred Matthews was Secretary of the West Essex Group Ramblers’ Association and Harry Bitten was a founder member of the Friends of Epping Forest (now Epping Forest Heritage Trust) and was a leading campaigner against threats to the forest. Together they devised and published guides on walks in Essex, which did much to popularise walking as a leisure activity.

Why you should read:

A great way to explore and enjoy the many parts of Epping Forest.
